DHA Lahore manages housing and municipal services for a significant portion of Lahore. One of the major environmental challenges faced by the community is the effective management and treatment of domestic wastewater.
Wastewater treatment remains a major environmental challenge in Pakistan. A considerable quantity of wastewater generated in urban areas is discharged without appropriate treatment, while functional treatment facilities remain limited.
DHA Lahore faces a similar challenge, where domestic sewage is discharged into streams connected with the River Ravi without prior treatment. This creates environmental, public-health and water-resource-management concerns.
CCER is assisting DHA Lahore in highlighting and addressing the critical need for wastewater treatment.
The initiative focuses on aligning the required technical and financial support for the development and installation of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for DHA Lahore Phases 6 and 7.
The initiative is expected to deliver multiple environmental and social benefits for DHA Lahore and the River Ravi ecosystem.
